You can tell it’s the eve of a major auto show because another manufacturer’s embargo has been broken. This time Jeep is the victim. Information on the 2014 Grand Cherokee has just been leaked onto the interwebz and AutoGuide is bringing you the latest.

The luxury SUV will receive a number of enhancements, some of which were expected, others not. Most importantly, a fuel-efficient 3.0-liter diesel engine will be offered in the truck. It’s estimated to deliver 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The Gods at Chrysler have apparently been listening, on oil-burning Grand Cherokee is something fans have been praying for.

The other huge bit of powertrain news involves the gearbox. As expected, this top-shelf Jeep is receiving an eight-speed automatic transmission. The popular ZF unit is used in numerous luxury cars on the market today, not to mention the new Ram 1500 pickup truck.

Aside from these major technical enhancements, the ’14 model is also getting some reworked styling. The Grand Cherokee’s already attractive design has been hardened-up slightly thanks to a new grille. The rear fascias are unique to each model and LED taillamps are standard across the board. It also gets adaptive headlamps, a capless fuel filler and lane-departure warning. A host of new exterior colors are available.

For techies, a new smartphone application allows owners to lock, unlock or start the vehicle from anywhere. The navigation system and instrument cluster have been overhauled as well.

Recently reduced to being the smallest automotive brand in North America, Mitsubishi is committed to soldiering forward with U.S. sales.

Part of that commitment means offering the sleeker, more conservative looking 2014 Outlander that the brand unveiled during the L.A. Auto Show in an attempt to hang on to its dwindling market share. The Japanese automaker has to hope that people will take kindly to its restyled utility vehicle after recently slashing many of its products including the Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder.

Mitsubishi will continue t

o offer both a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine and a V6 while other options for the 2014 model include a navigation system and a 710-watt sound system. Farther on the horizon, the brand will also offer the Outlander PHEV first seen during this year’s Paris Motor Show.

The crossover also gets three new safety systems: lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and forward collision mitigation.

Brand boss Osamu Masuko already predicted that overall brand sales will reach to 55,000 units by the end of the fiscal year and that they will read 80,000 another year after that.

The 2014 Outlander is part of that plan, but it remains to be seen if Mitsubishi will be able to come back from its difficult position.

If you asked brand fans what the Mercedes G Wagon will look like in 2025, they would probably show you a photo of the 2012 model.

It would be hard to blame them. After all, the car seems to have have updated its styling little more over the years than a gentleman changing his pocket square. But believe it or not, the crazy-looking Ener-G Force concept seen here, is meant to be a preview of the boxy SUV’s future. Then again, this concept is imaginative to say the least.

It originally came from this year’s design challenge which charged contestants to imagine the ultimate law enforcement vehicle. That evolved into the civilian concept Mercedes brought to L.A. this year.

Calling it imaginative is an understatement, but the car certainly offers some cool ideas. Using a tank stored on the roof, the Ener-G can convert water into hydrogen fuel that can then, in theory, be used to keep the car powered.

It’s said to offer 500 miles of emissions-free driving and features independent electric motors for each wheel. While some of that technology is reasonable, other bits would feel more at home amid a Star Trek convention.

Still, if the concept is meant to preview future design cues for Mercedes’ boxiest of off-road-ready beasts, it could mean the brand is considering softening those edges — if only a little.

Members of the press might recall Bentley’s seemingly senile speech about the rich owning falcons during the Geneva Motor Show in March, but it turns out that the ridiculous reference was a cheeky preview of the car’s real name.

AutoGuide’s request for a statistical analysis on how many well-to-do families actually keep birds of prey remains unanswered, but the speech that had at least one finger scratching a scalp makes more sense now. If the rumors are true, the ultra-luxury brand’s SUV will be called the Falcon and not the EXP 9-F as previously asserted.

The truck will also undergo a styling overhaul before reaching production — perhaps in a quiet concession that the concept’s styling was as asinine as most of the media initially said. Automobile magazine is reporting that Volkswagen’s new design director Luc Donckerwolke will be behind the project’s revision.

Other projects like the Lamborghini Urus, it seems, have been stayed for at least another year along with the Bugatti Galibier and Bentley Azure.
